THE SELECTED PLAYS FOR THE WOMEN'S PROJECT
Theatre Arts West would like to thank all of the 160+ extraordinary women who submitted stage plays for The Women's Project. It is our policy to base our choices solely upon the developed elements of the play and the skill of the playwright; therefore, we don't read bios or resumes until we have agreed upon which plays reflect our mission and offer us the opportunity to present challenging, questioning, thoughtful work. It was so difficult for us to make decisions. However, decisions had to be made, and we are so awed by the work that we will be developing for our stages.

He placed a painting by our Visual Arts Director, Gabriele Bitter, within a still from the 1951 movie, The Lavender Hill Mob. Photo courtesy of the Getty archives. Fifty-three years after the film was produced, women in the performing and visual arts still struggle to be more than background. We need to support female producers, directors, writers, composers, musicians, and choreographers. We need to offer development opportunities for women to widen their spheres of interest and grow their talents. Finally, women should receive the same compensation as their male counterparts.
The deadline for playwrights and choreographers has passed. Submission guidelines for female visual artists, filmmakers, composers and musicians can be found in : Film (under the Theatre menu), Art, and Music under those menus.
April 1st for music, composers, and filmmakers.
May 1st for art.
